Capillary Ion Chromatography 4 µm Particle Size ColumnsThis blog post showcases three recently released 4 μm particle-size capillary columns for our high-pressure ion chromatography (IC) systems (Thermo Scientific Dionex ICS-5000 Reagent-Free HPIC and Thermo Scientific Dionex ICS-4000 capillary HPIC systems) plus chromatograms of applications for the columns. As higher backpressures are possible with the high-pressure IC systems, these columns yield fast separations with short (150 mm) columns, and high resolution with standard length (250 mm) columns. They also produce more efficient peaks allowing higher resolution separations and faster run times.

Anion-Exchange Columns

These are the Thermo Scientific Dionex IonPac AS18-4µm Anion-Exchange columns for the determination of inorganic anions and low-molecular-weight organic acids. Some great examples shown at the link above include:

  • Isocratic separation of inorganic anions, organic acids, and oxyhalides
  • Separation of municipal drinking water, bottled water, and wastewater samples
  • Determination of inorganic anions in a drinking water and wastewater samples using a potassium hydroxide gradient delivered by an eluent generator
  • Fast dual-gradient separation of environmental anions

Hydroxide-Selective Anion-Exchange Columns

The Thermo Scientific Dionex IonPac AS11-HC-4µm Anion-Exchange columns are a smaller particle column and thus provide a higher resolution of inorganic anions and organic acid anions in complex matrices. The examples for this column include:

  • Separation of organic acids and inorganic anions
  • Analysis of fruit juice, beer, and wine samples
  • Comparison of peak efficiency of the Thermo Scientific Dionex IonPac AS11-HC and Thermo Scientific Dionex AS11-HC-4µm Capillary columns.

Cation-Exchange Columns

The Thermo Scientific Dionex IonPac CS19-4µm Cation-Exchange columns provide a high resolution separation of small polar amines. Examples shown include:

  • Separation of Group I and II inorganic cations plus ammonium
  • Separation of biogenic amines and the common cations using an aqueous gradient in approximately 8 minutes
