Christmas season is upon us – it has been here since the moment Halloween ended. Here in the U.S., Thanksgiving is not even a fully recognized holiday anymore. It’s become the “we’re halfway to Christmas!” holiday.
It seems crazy that Christmas gets recognized for nearly a quarter of the year, but I enjoy every minute of it. The holly, wreaths, garlands, lights, ornaments, cookies – it’s a wonderful time of year. My favorite part? Christmas carols!
To me, there’s nothing better than singing carols while sitting around the Christmas tree, or while you’re making breakfast, or brushing your teeth, or driving to work, or walking to a meeting. When you think about it, Christmas carols are suitable for any time of the day!
One of my favorite carols has always been “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” I can hear the lyrics in my head.
On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree
As I sing this song, I always find myself saying “why would anyone want to get these gifts? Who would be thrilled at the thought of getting a partridge or turtle doves or French hens or any of the other gifts that get listed in that song?
Personally, the nerdy scientist in me would be delighted to receive gifts for my laboratory. Just think of how that song would go….sing along if you know the tune!
